Anne & Kristilyn’s 2014 Book Bingo Reading Challenge

http://readinginwinter.com/2013/12/16/challenge-anne-kristilyns-2014-book-bingo-reading-challenge/

You Can go check out the challenge here, and here are the rules

  1. Be awesome. If you’re not, this isn’t going to work.
  2. The challenge runs from January 1 to December 31, 2014.
  3. If you want to participate, you can join in any time of the year! Feel free to write up a blog post with the rules linking back to my and Anne’s blog in your sign-up post. You can add your post to the Linky at the end of this post!
  4. If you read one book for the “1 book” in any category, you can’t change it later on when you read another book to “2 books.” Once a square is crossed off, it’s crossed off for good! (Feel free to print off the scoreboard to keep track!)
  5. Books read for one square are for that square ONLY and cannot be counted towards another category. This is all about reading ALL THE BOOKS.
  6. The FREE SQUARES are a little different this year — now you can use those squares to read ANY book you like of any genre! Woo!
  7. You can start your board over again, but ONLY if you receive the stamp of awesome by completing a blackout. The “winners” of the challenge will be the ones who achieve the most winning combinations by the end of 2014.
  8. You can feel free to post your reading list for each category, though it’s not a requirement.
  9. Having a blog or writing reviews for books read is not required. So long as you want to have fun, you can participate!
  10. Every 3 months I will post an update here and all participants can link to their own updates. An update post will go up April 1st, July 1st, October 1st, and December 31st.
  11. This isn’t a race, but don’t be afraid to rub your reads in the other player’s face. This will be seen as encouragement. Feel free to use the hashtag #BookBingo2014 on Twitter!
While you can definitely “win” by the boring ol’ vertical or horizontal (or diagonal!) lines, the best ways to win are as follows:
BINGO Wins 2014-01
Like it says in the guidelines, the ONLY way to start a new board is to become the SUPER READER! The goal is to read ALL THE BOOKS! To be a winner (thus, to become the awesomest reader around), you’ll want to accomplish as many wins as possible!

2014 WORD OF THE YEAR

So this took me longer then it has ever.  I did have a vague idea of what I wanted but couldn't find the word I wanted for it because "me" just wasn't the word I wanted.  This past year I have seen a major change in myself in a short amount of time.  I have lost 42 pounds, that's a serious amount of weight but it doesn't make me where I want to be.  It did show me though how much I have lost myself since we have moved to Maine.  So with that my Word of the Year (W.O.Y.) for 2014 is EMPOWER!!!!!

I am thinking that this is the year for wooden blocks now it will be finding them if not I will have to find something different. I want to EMPOWER myself to find Me again!  To get myself closer to my weight goal and make better choices for myself.  To find my happy inside me again and not this funk I have been in.  I want to EMPOWER myself to bring back my creativity and make time for the things I love doing again.

I know becoming a Mom, and a Caregiver have pushed my onto the back burner, but the longer I let it go the harder it is going to be to try and find me again.  I have lost sight of what is important to me and what makes me who I am.  So that lead to my thinking of my 2014 word needing to revolve around ME.  But me being me I couldn't just choose me because it didn't feel right.  I needed something that called to me as MY word, my strength through the fight to find me.  I needed a word that could bring me to my core and help me rebuild what has been broken and lost.  I needed a word that made me feel strong and that I could accomplish this, I could find me again and be happy with myself.  And with that it came to me, I needed to EMPOWER myself to find the change to bring me back.  So with that I will find myself amongst all the chaos and retrieve what has been lost and broken to rebuild the new Empowered Me!!!!

The Scale is my Friend

So before I refused to own a scale the freaking thing scared the hell out of me.  I wasn't doing anything right and the numbers kept growing and growing.  Now that I have a better idea of what is right and what really needs to be done I weigh myself every Monday unless it's weigh in day (the end of the month regardless) and I am so proud of the difference I have been seeing.  I got on the scale this morning to see I am under 170.  I am 4 pounds away from my first goal, 4 pounds and I will weigh less then where I was when I got pregnant with Kyrie.  It's been a hard road to take it all off, and it has taken huge improvements and lifestyle changes from my end but I am doing it!!!!

#79 Do Something Special and get a new bag

I got a Grace Adele bag.  A black one.  It feels great having a new purse and doing something for ME!!

Visual Motivation

I saw a version of these on pinterest but wasn't happy with them because they said Pounds Lost.  I never want to find those pounds again so I didn't want to do lost.  Pounds destroyed sounds better because those suckers are NOT coming back.

Awakening

It's amazing to see what motivation can do.  I have been working hard this year on loosing the weight I gained from moving to Maine, on taking off the pregnancy weight from both girls and trying to reach my healthy weight.  I have been making progress with a little set back at first but with encouragement from Seth, I got through the upset that came with gaining muscle when I was trying to take off weight.  I have come to see the people who care notice and help.  Little things make a huge difference.  I saw a friend yesterday that I haven't seen in about a month and she told me I was the incredible shrinking woman.  The people at Church have noticed the difference and always have encouragement and support for me through my struggle.  I get that it is my battle, no one can fight it for me.  That I have to do it myself but it's nice having support in my corner to help me get there.  Seeing the difference just from July is overwhelming.  In July my Mom bought me a shirt and I needed to take it back but never got around to taking it back.  Just to see I tried it on and now it fits.  It is absolutely astounding how many people try and hurt you along your path to a better you.  Who constantly try and break you.  It's crazy how those people call themselves your family.  But I am working on getting over the fact that some people just suck.  They can't seem to be accepting of something that is different from them, they can't build you up even if you build them up.  I'm okay with it now or trying to be.  I have spent too long crying over people who don't deserve to have me be a part of their lives in the first place, so now I am letting it go along with my weight and emerging better for it all.

My Fight For Me

I had slowly come to hate how I looked.  It hit me in February how much this really struck home, and how much I was blaming it on moving to Maine.  It took me 6 months to get my thyroid meds back and during that time I had I had no control over my weight no matter how much I fought it.  I cried myself to sleep, couldn't understand how Seth and the girls could love me when I couldn't even love myself.  Nothing I did mattered I saw myself as ugly and I could care less how much good I did for anyone else I wasn't happy with me.  In February I decided enough was enough and started working on dropping some weight.  In July after seeing my Mom and brother it really hit home I wasn't working hard enough so after they left I threw myself into loosing weight even harder.  I started tracking calories, going on walks, tracking all the activities I did and working more on working out daily. I set my first goal at 165 and I am 8 pounds away from meeting that first goal.  I feel better about myself, I am seeing the results from my work.  I am even getting Seth doing workouts with me.  It is amazing how much one thing has made such a difference in how I see things.  I might still have "issues" with being so far from home and my family but I am at least working on me and that is one of the biggest things I was having problems facing.  I plan on working hard and staying focused and get down to my final goal and showing the girls how important taking care of your weight is.  I am in charge of ME, MY Health, and it is going to help me work on loving me more.

Faith and Me

I am still testing my Faith not so much in God because I know how much he does for me daily but in myself.  I am still second guessing myself even though I am right.  Like in Lucky's case.  I knew before we went into the Shelter he was the dog for us and I let my own fear overplay my Faith in myself.  I am glad that we decided on him because I was right he is PERFECT for us.  I am also working on being for grateful for everything in life.  I am going to go back to keeping a gratitude journal because the negativity around me is drastically bringing down my thankfulness.  It will also help increase my PEACE and I can use all the peace I can get.

#65 Have a Tea Party with the Girls

The girls and I have been doing Tea Parties a lot more often lately.  We used real tea (thankfully I have caffeine free) and I put some sugar in a container too along with a pitcher of water just in case.

#1 Visit with my Mom and Brother

My Mom, Brother and Shannon came up for Seth and I to renew our vows and my 30th Birthday.  It was the best having them here even though it was only for a few days and taking them to the airport was one of the hardest things I have done in a long time.  I didn't want to let them go.  Being this far away from them has taken a huge toll on me emotionally.  I know my Mom and I were not the closest people but that relationship grew over the years.  Being here has only made me realize even more how close we have become.  I want nothing more then to be able to go back to our Sunday dinner's, weekday lunches, special Halloweens with the girls, and all the other things we did.

#91 Finish Birthday/Anniversary Binder

I got the idea to do this awhile ago and did half of it then set it down and never picked it back up.  So I added it to my list so I could get it done and actually use it.  Here is my blog post on my craft blog about it.

#13 Decorate Zee's Room

I finally got all the stuff up on Zee's wall and the stuff arranged the way she wants it and I like.

#53 Volunteer at School 10 times

Had I known I was going to hit 10 times before the end of the school year I would have made a higher number but I got into the swing of being there and having Zee there next year I will have more time to go in and volunteer.  I loved being up at school and helping out with the box top store, book fair, helping the teachers.  It gave me a huge sense of accomplishment.

#42 Send out cards for subcommittee meetings

We only had 4 meetings but I sent them out for each one.  I got the same people showing up but I kept it up from my end.

#36 and #37 Decorate dollhouse walls and floors

I finally got around to decorating the floors and walls in the girls dollhouse with scrapbook paper so it looks like flooring and wallpaper.  The girls absolutely love it.

#88 Get Zee a library card when she turns 5

She was so excited to be able to get her OWN library card and check out books on her card.

#99 Compliment a Stranger

I've done this one a few times and have gotten the same response, thankful but a little shocked a stranger would talk to them.  Still getting used to this "Northern" response.

#20 Wear earrings and necklace when I leave the house for 60 days

It's become easier to remember to put on some nice earrings and a necklace now when I head out of the house.

#61 Write Letter to Kyrie to open when Challenge Over

Once I sat down and got started the letter was easy to write.  I tried not to make it too long so it is over a page.  I have written the girls letters before but when they were babies to open when they are 18.  So this was different having a shorter turn around.  Now to work on Zee's letter.

#23 Organize Stickers

I got rewards points in the other day and with my discount I scored two sticker holders for $3.00.  I know YAY!!!!!!   So I decided it was time to organize my stickers.  I still need 3 sticker holders but I put everything into individual zip lock bags so it's all nice and organized for whenever I get the containers.

#8 Organize Scrapbook Paper

I could use another three drawer tote and one more of the single totes for it to be as organized as I would like it but.  The paper is organized and labeled.

#39 Drink Water Daily for a Month

So this one has been going so well I didn't even realize I hit a month a few days ago.

#87 Be Asleep Before 11:00 p.m. For A Week

So the difference it made being asleep before 11 was huge.  I have had two nights since I finished that I didn't get to sleep before 11 and I could so feel it the next day.  But when I do get to sleep before 11, I am more rested and wake up in such a better mood.

#86 Try 5 New Drinks

Who knew this would be so easy.  I would have shot for more if I knew I would knock them all out the first month.  Seth and I went out one night and I got a Star Spangled Rita, then at the store they had new frozen drink pouches so I got the Smirnoff Blue Raspberry Lemonade, Cherry Limeaid, and Strawberry Lemonade.  Then I tried Coconut Water.  I loved the Rita, the Strawberry Lemonade was good the other two were sour and I am a Cherry Limeaid lover and it was too sour for me.  And I do not care for Coconut Water.  Well unless it's the Sobe one.

VENT

Today is a new day let the worries of yesterday was off of you, I will not let the people who want to bring me down win!  I am STRONG, I have been through things you can not even imagine and I have come out on top, I might be scarred but it makes me who I am.  I learned who belongs in my life and who doesn't.  I refuse to be treated like I have been, I deserve better and I have finally accepted that those people do not belong in my life how many chances I give them.  To bring me to tears because you treat me like garbage ninety percent of the time and because you thing think that because ten percent of the time you treat me right does not make it right.  You are nothing to me, and I will no longer let you bring me down.  I deserve better and I will have better.  I am tired of being treated badly and I will no longer accept it, if you can not treat me and my children with the respect and love we deserve don't bother.  It may not bother Seth but I will not accept it.  VENT OVER!!!!

#85 Take Multivitamin every day for 2 weeks

I hit the two weeks today and am going to keep going.  It's gotten easier to remember to take them.

#12 Start a Mommy and Me Journal with Kyrie

So I decorated this journal for Kyrie and me to write to each other back and forth.  She loved it so much when she saw it after coming home from school.  I'm hoping this will keep us talking about things through her teen years.

Being Thankful

"Throughout history wise men and women have encouraged us to feel grateful for what we have.
Why? Very simply because gratitude makes us feel good. When you're feeling grateful, your mind is clear, and therefore you have access to your greatest wisdom and common sense. You see the big picture."
- Richard Carlson, Ph.D., (1995)

Today I realized I am not nearly as thankful as I should be and I want to change that.   I want to show the girls how thankful  I am for everything daily so they will live the same way.   I am so thankful not just for the BIG things but the small things and I need to spend more time being thankful for them.  I need to get into the habit of writing in my gratitude journal.  I am blessed with two amazing little girls who both have amazing Best Friends.  And in the way of best friends the girls really picked some great ones.  I don't think I could have picked better friends for them.  Forming forever friendships is one of the best things, I think I was Kyrie's age when my best friend stopped being just a friend and became my SISTER!!!!  I know the girls were not given the same luxury as I had of having a best friend from like day one, and even though we don't see each other as much as either one of us would like, have gone big periods of time without talking it doesn't affect us.  I also had to explain to Kyrie we can have more then one best friend.
I have an AMAZING Church, whom without my Church family I would have packed up and left Maine a LONG time ago.  Our Church makes me feel so welcome and blessed and I have spent more time with my Faith since finding it.  And I believe that it has brought Seth and I closer together.
I am always thankful for Seth, even when he drives me bonkers.  He gets me and it takes a lot to get me.  He has patience even when I don't.  Not just dealing with all things but dealing with me.  These past three years have been some of the hardest in my life.  Leaving my home, my family, my friends and moving more then a two days drive away from it all.  I've made new friends, and I have Seth's family but the South will ALWAYS have my heart, it will always be my HOME!  Maine hasn't changed that and I don't think it ever will.  I am PROUD to be a Southern Girl, proud our daughters were born Southern girls!  With in the span of a little more than a year I lost not one but two AMAZING women in my life and I shattered.  Not many people knew how much I was rocked by it all because I kept it to myself.  I can no longer be the person everyone wants me to be, I have to be ME!  Now if you don't like it so be that way but I am who I am like it or Leave.  What will I be teaching the girls if I can't be ME!
I am finally to a place where I want to be HAPPY again.  My life is not what I wanted, I am far from HOME, but I need to be Happy or I will never be able to rebuild myself.  And a big start to that is being thankful for all those little things I don't think about as much.
I just need to remember

"This is my temporary home
It's not where I belong.
Windows and rooms that I'm passin' through.
This is just a stop, on the way to where I'm going.
I'm not afraid because I know this is my
Temporary Home."

#73 Organize my photos (Kyrie, Zee, Mine, Seth, Girls, Family, Events)

So I decided to rearrange my Scrap area with the hope of it making me more "Crafty" and in doing so I decided to clean and organize all my stuff.  So while I was sorting and organizing all of the other stuff I figured I might as well do the photos too.  So now they are all in order sorted by age, event and person for my books.  This way I just have to pull out a stack of pictures when I start working on books.
